LAX Rideshare Pickup and Drop-Off: A Complete 2026 Guide
LAX is not an airport you improvise at. Drop-offs and pickups happen in completely different places, and the rules are not obvious from inside the terminal. Here is how LAX rideshare pickup and drop-off actually work in 2026.
Drop-off: the departures level
Leaving is the easy half. Your driver takes you to the upper departures level and pulls in at the kerb outside your airline. You unload and walk straight into check in. Pickups are not permitted on the departures level at all, so it is strictly a one way arrangement.
Pickup: everything goes to LAX-it
Arriving is different. Every rideshare and taxi pickup at LAX is routed to LAX-it, a dedicated lot east of Terminal 1, and there is no kerbside alternative for app based rides. You get there one of two ways.
You can walk, following the signs from your terminal. Terminals 1 and 7 are closest at roughly three to eight minutes. Terminals 4 and 5 are the furthest at around nineteen minutes. Or you can take the free shuttle, which picks up on the first level outside baggage claim every three to five minutes, makes a maximum of two terminal stops, and takes eight to fifteen minutes to reach the lot.
What the LAX rideshare zone is actually like
Better than its reputation, as it happens. The lot has restrooms, food trucks, phone charging stations, and seating with shaded tables. If you have just come off an eleven hour flight, it is a considerably more civilised place to wait than a kerb.
Working out your timing
- Terminals 1 and 7: short walk, quickest exit.
- Terminals 2 and 3: moderate walk, or take the shuttle with bags.
- Terminals 4, 5, 6 and Tom Bradley: take the shuttle unless you are travelling very light.
- Add ten to twenty minutes to your plans at peak arrival times.
What is changing at LAX in 2026
Two things worth knowing. Los Angeles World Airports raised the per trip rideshare fee at LAX from $4 to $6 in 2026, and access to the central terminal area is set to rise to $12 per trip once the new SkyLink train opens, which will also reshape how passengers move between terminals and the ground transportation facilities.

Finding your driver once you are there
LAX-it is organised into marked zones, and the one you want depends on the service you booked. Follow the signage rather than the crowd, since the taxi queue and the app pickup areas sit close together and look similar at night. Keep your booking reference to hand, and if you cannot see your vehicle, call rather than wander. Dispatch can locate a driver far faster than you can.
